Bubeke, Uganda
This map of Bubeke, Kalangala District, Uganda Protectorate (present-day Uganda) was compiled and drawn by the Directorate of Overseas Surveys, Department of Technical Cooperation in the British government and issued in 1960 by the Uganda Department of Lands and Surveys. It is based on aerial photography and field survey data. Bubeke Island is located in the western part of Lake Victoria, south of Entebbe. Nearby islands, also shown on the map, include Bunjazi, Buyange, Bukasa, and Nkese. The map shows rocks, piers, landings, and other features important for navigation on the lake. Symbols indicate that the surfaces of Bubeke and adjacent islands are mostly wooded grassland. There are no major roads or settlements on the islands. An index grid in the lower left identifies adjoining sheets to this detailed survey map. The map scale is 1:50,000. Lake Victoria, which was previously called Victoria Nyanza, is the largest lake in Africa, the second largest freshwater lake in the world (after Lake Superior in North America), and the chief source of the Nile River. Containing many islands and archipelagos and numerous reefs, the lake lies mainly in Tanzania and Uganda and also borders on Kenya.
